Hello everyone!
I don't feel like much has happened since I last blogged, but I felt like I should blog while I have to chance :) There was excitement this evening when the power went out :) So not only do we not have cable or internet, we also had no power...lol. It was no big deal and the power came back on in about 2 hours. I have been very enthusiastic about the Olympics, and thanks to my oh-so-intelligent roomate, we now have an old-school antenna on the tv so we are able to pick up basic cable, including NBC!!! Needless to say, I have been watching a LOT of Olympics! This morning, Liz and Titus and I made the walk to campus through the park - it really wasn't a bad walk, around 15 minutes and mostly down a biiiiig hill, to get to our buildings (our buildings are right next door to each other!). We did discover that the walk back up the really biiiiiig hill was a bit challenging :)...so maybe we'll walk to class in the morning but ride the bus back home :)
Today was a good day also because Liz calls Time Warner every day to see if they can come any earlier to install the cable and internet - we've already gotten it moved up to this Friday (only 4 more days!), and today we finally convinced them that we should get one of the promotions as a new customer, so now out monthly bill is going to be $25 less than what it was supposed to be!!! $25 is a LOT of money to really poor grad students :)
Then I got even more exciting news when I found out Tanya and her mom are definitely coming to visit me...tomorrow!!!! They should get here sometime late tomorrow afternoon and will be here all the way until Friday! yayayayayay! AND yesterday I talked to my friend Megan Chesser who is a grad student at UMass Amherst and she is going to try to come visit over Labor Day! I love visitors :)
Today I also cooked my first 'real' meal here at the apartment! I made spaghetti for lunch - mastering the gas burners is a little tricky, but I think I can figure it out! :) So, tomorrow I will be working on final organization and picking up before Tanya and her mom get here, and then we can all watch the Olympics together!!!
Wow! I guess that for not thinking I had done much today I sure had a lot to say! Talk to you all again soon!

No Internet!?
Hello Friends and Family!
I know, I know, it's taken me forever to update the blog, but this time I really do have a valid excuse :) Time Warner is so backed up that we had to schedule our installation appointment for our cable and internet for 10 days away! So, we won't have cable or internet at the house until this Friday, August 15!!! I am currently sitting in Panera, eating breakfast and enjoying coffee...and using their free wireless :) Everything with move-in went extremely well! Mom and Dad and I arrived safely at 104 Judson Street on Sunday afternoon. We immediately started cleaning and scrubbing everything, and continued to clean for the next 2 days! The house wasn't necessarily dirty, it's just old :) After many many trips to Lowes and Bed, Bath, and Beyond we finally got everything moved in! I love the house - I promise I will attach picture next time, and Liz and I are settling in quite nicley. Liz got here on Wednesday and we helped unload her truck - she brought all of the furniture for the house so we were very glad to be able to set up the living room and dining room and make it look like a real house!
Liz's sister has been here helping her move in but is flying back to Raleigh today, and mom and dad just left yesterday, so she and I are getting ready to try to find a normal routine! Mom and Dad were a HUGE help with move in - there is absolutely no way I could have done it without them! Make sure you all give them a big pat on the back next time you see them! Mom is a much better shopper than I am so she was happy to spend all day out shopping for just the right furniture and desk chair, and as long as dad had his trusty drill he was ready to assemble any and every piece of "put it together yourself" furniture we could find!
We realized about mid-week that there was still way too much to do at the house, and we made the decision not to go to Niagra Falls...I'm sure we will go again on a later trip when JW is able to come up too! The weather here has been interesting! The temperature is very nice - 70's and 80's with very little humidity, but we've been having lots of days where it rains sporatically throughout the day! It will switch between bright sunshine and rain 3-4 times a day!!!
I'm still working to get my room organized just right, but as soon as I do I will take lots of pictures and upload them! Hopefully I can get back to the internet sometime soon! Until then....love you all!

Travel Day 1!
I am writing to you now from a comfy hotel bed (don't worry - it's bed bug free - I checked!) at a Hampton Inn in Winchester, Virginia! Mom and Dad and I arrived safely here around 5:30...we finally left Concord around 10:30. As soon as we tried to pull out of the driveway we realized the van battery was dead (we probably left one of the doors open during packing)...but it was no big deal, we just jumped it and rolled on!
The drive up was fine...a little bit windy through the Virginia mountains and just a little bit of rain. We got take out Italian here in the hotel for dinner (...yuck!) and are planning on leaving here by 9 in the morning to get to Syracuse between 3-4pm! Here are some pictures of how full the cars are with all of my stuff! I find it pretty crazy that it takes 2 cars to carry all of my stuff!!!
For those of you who don't know, we just got a 2001 GMC Jimmy for me to have in Syracuse. It's really nice and is 4 wheel drive and has a lot of space to carry all of my stuff :) Enjoy the pics and remember that I won't be able to blog our first several days in Syracuse, but I'll catch you up as soon as I can!
Have a great rest of your weekend!

"Mom! Get the camera and take a picture of the Virginia welcome sign!!! But I'm not gonna slow down - I'm gonna keep going 80 mph in the passing lane!"

aaaaaaaand we're back!
Back by popular demand...it's Allison's Blog! I got so many wonderful comments on the blog I kept while I was in Eastern Europe that I decided to start a new one for my latest life transition - the move to Syracuse and starting graduate school! I am really really excited getting up to Syracuse and moving into the house and learning all about a brand new place! I am also anxious and nervous about all of those things, and starting a new and challenging program at school! I hope that I will be able to blog about these transitions and post pictures of Syracuse and the new house and everything!
Here are some general details: I will be living in the first floor apartment of a house in Syracuse right off campus. I will be living with Liz, a fellow NC State graduate who is starting her PhD in Psychology. She and I both sang in a Cappella groups at State and knew each other through that! She has a miniature schnauzer named Titus who will be living with us - I'll post pics of his cute little self very soon!
Mom and Dad and I are leaving tomorrow to drive up and get me all moved in! See the list on the left for more details about my upcoming plans and scheduling :) We will be stopping over and spending the night in Winchester, Virginia before driving the last 6 hours to Syracuse on Sunday!
I should let you know that we aren't having the internet turned on at the new house until Thursday, so as cruel as it may seem, I probably won't be able to blog for my first several days in Syracuse. I promise I will update with details and pictures as soon as I can!
Hope to blog again soon! Allison
